Charlene,
Apologies for the delay, had some problems with the filtering of the comments....
If a tooth has a good root canal, but the crown has been 'leaking', then the root canal can deteriorate, and then both the crown and root filling need replaced. Alternatively, it could be that the root canal was not successful. Root canal is a very tricky and delicate procedure, which is why we have two endodontists, who do nothing but root canal.

Des,
Firstly sorry about delays, I have had a problem with over aggressive spam modulation...sounds dangerous.

Implant prices.
I would give the standard bit, that we need to examine first before we can give definitive answers, but let me give some approximate figures.
For a single implant, the overall cost is in the region of £2-2.5k. This includes all the reviews and the crown construction. The reason for the variation is that on occasion we can use a synthetic bone material to help with the aesthetics. In addition we use different configurations of posts which connect the implant to the crown.
For two teeth, we still need two implants, and so the cost is almost twice the cost.
The reason it is not twice the cost, is that certain items, such as the disposable drills etc are charged once, and then even if you had 5,6,8 or 10 implnats placed, they are already paid for. This means 2 teeth might cost £4k.
When we go to 3 teeth, if they are beside one another, we still only need two implants, and so the cost would be approximately £5k, and in a similar vein, four teeth, £6k.
We always give full costed plans before we embark on any treatment!

if i had a root canal and a crown placed 2 or 3 years ago why would i have bacteria under it and in the canal and be told the crown has to be removed and the bacteria cleaned out and maybe able to put a new crown?

Is it that straightforward that by brushing twice a day we
can avoid having to treat gum disease altogether?

No unfortunately not quite that simple. Gum disease is caused via bacteria in the plaque. It is influenced by other aspects, such as your response, smoking, diabetes, etc.
One in five of us are susceptible, and need to clean meticulously. In addition you do need to clean in between your teeth, especially the backk ones.

I know this sounds like a plug, but do get checks with a dentist who is keen on prevention. It may be you only need to see a hygienist once a year, or it could be that you need more regular care.

If correct prevention is carried out you should be able to prevent the vast majority of gum isssues.
I hope this was helpful

Sevenfields has a very relaxed approach to their patients which is nice and all the staff that I have come in contact with are very friendly and likeable people. The only negative eperience I have had is when my Bridge broke and I must be honest this was quite traumatic for me but Patrick quickly reassured me that it would be sorted and true to his word it was, I am much happier with the new Denture as it looks much more natural and feels nicer in my mouth.
